Cathy Weatherspoon

Cathy Weatherspoon is the Executive Director of Thriving Grant County, Mill Township. She has been in this position for four years. TGC, Mill Township, formerly known as Thriving Families, Thriving Grant County, is a collective impact initiative. Its approach is to orient cross-sector participants towards solving complex social or environmental problems collectively around poverty in Grant County. This adaptive work happens in working groups committed to alleviating poverty in Grant County; group members co-create ways to change frequent occurrences in Family Well Being, Talent Pipeline, and Community Development. Currently, the organization concentrates on financial wellness, food security, and early childhood education in Gas City and Jonesboro.

Before her appointment at Thriving Grant County, Cathy worked at Taylor University for 12 years. She held the status of assistant professor and directorship in Student Development. She taught leadership development, oversaw a leadership scholarship, counseled students in internships and career placements, and served on several academic committees.

Cathy serves on the executive committee for the Board of Directors for Carey Services and Commissioners of Marion Arts Alliance. She’s taught small biblical groups for more than 20 years. She attends College Wesleyan Church in Marion, where she was an elected deacon for two terms and now serves on the Community Outreach committee.

She received her undergraduate degree in Human Resource Management from St. Leo University, and her master’s in science management from Indiana Wesleyan University.

 In 2015 Cathy earned the designation of Hoosier Fellow through Randall L. Tobias Center for Leadership Excellence, Indiana University.  2018 she obtained a life coaching certification through Lark’s Song Coaching Academy and a Fund-Raising Management certification in 2019.

She resides in Marion with her husband, Bruce. They have been married for 35 years and have lived in Marion for 26 years. Bruce and Cathy have two adult children. Candice resides in Los Angeles and is a 2011 Taylor graduate and Cortland. He lives in Denver, Co.
