Dr. Gene and Marylou Habecker, President Emeritus

Gene and Marylou Habecker have spent 35 years in president/CEO leadership roles, first at Huntington University (10 years), then the American Bible Society (14 years), and lastly at Taylor University (11 years). Gene and Marylou celebrated the opportunity to “profess the presidency” together. They have traveled extensively, visiting more than 100 countries around the world, while enjoying the people and beauty of the John 3:16 world.

Gene is an author, speaker, and educator and holds degrees from Taylor University (BA), Ball State University (MA),University of Michigan (PhD), and Temple University (JD) School of Law. He is also a graduate of the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management (IEM). He serves as Senior Fellow, Sagamore Institute and also writes, speaks, and also coaches and mentors senior leaders. He teaches in the graduate programs of Baylor University and Capital Seminary and Graduate School in Pennsylvania.

He serves on the boards of Denver Seminary, the Consortium of Christian Studies Centers, and chairs the Advisory Council for Baylor/Truett Seminary’s Faith and Sports Institute. He is also President Emeritus of Taylor University.

Marylou is an educator, writer, author,speaker, artist and holds degrees from Taylor University (BS), Ball State University (MA) and in 2017 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Taylor University (LHD). She received the Rosie Kerlin Women in Leadership award in 2017 from Taylor University. She enjoys mentoring young women, is a volunteer and loves encouraging people to be all they can be in Jesus. She also serves on the Board of the Avis Foundation. She and Gene have authored the book, “The Softer Side of Leadership,” soon to be re-published by InterVarsity Press. (IVP)

Gene and Marylou met at Taylor university and returned to Taylor University to complete their career. Serving at Taylor University was a highlight of their career and brought great joy.

They have been married for 55 years and have been blessed with three married children and seven amazing grandchildren.
