Reflection/Discussion Questions:
- Reflect on these words penned by the psalmist “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.” Psalm 42:1
- Are you thirsty to know God?
- Have you entered into a personal relationship with Jesus?
- What are your thoughts around the idea that Salvation is a moment in time—Surrender is moment by moment?
- What keeps you from living a fully surrendered life?
- We are called to live by faith. What are you trusting God for today? What are you trusting God for today that if He doesn’t do it…it is not going to happen?
- What are your thoughts around the idea that Risk (stepping out of your comfort zone) leads to Dependency and dependency leads to Intimacy with God that you cannot get without risk?
- Reflect on this quote from Francis Chan “Why do you need the Comforter (The Holy Spirit) if you are comfortable?”

Dr. John Walton

Dr. John Walton
John H. Walton (Ph.D. Hebrew Union College) is Professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College and Graduate School where he has taught for almost twenty years. Dr. Walton has published nearly 30 books, among them commentaries, reference works, text books, scholarly monographs, and popular academic works. He was the Old Testament general editor for the Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible (NIV, NKJV, NRSV), and is perhaps most widely known for the “Lost World” books (including The Lost World of Genesis One, The Lost World of Adam and Eve, and The Lost World of the Flood). His areas of expertise include the importance of the ancient Near East for interpreting the Old Testament as well as the dialogue between science and faith.
Whether in teaching or writing, he is constantly challenged in his own life; the material that he is presenting stretches him as much as it stretches his students or readers. Whatever he is writing or teaching also has a way of infiltrating his family. His wife, Kim, was trained as a biochemist, which has made for interesting dinner conversations–especially when he was working on his Genesis commentary. Their three children are all grown and married, and are an “academically intense” group.
Reflection/Discussion Questions:
- Why did God create us?
- What is the Bible all about?
- What has God always wanted?
- Why did Jesus come?
